It’s another time with Delonix Cares. I trust we had a good
read with yesterday’s post. I enjoin you to be as sincere with yourself as possible
(I am too, so you’re not alone in this) as the Holy Spirit in us helps us identify more
causes of gossip and teaches us how to tackle it.
Some of us might say that ‘well, I don’t gossip, I just
listen to the “gist”, but I don’t make any contribution’. Well, I used to think
like that too until
I knew that I’m still a part of it by staying there and
taking in all the guile (2 John: 10-11). The thing is, one way or another,
whatever I hear somehow informs my disposition to the one being gossiped about…
So, we were about the causes of gossip, right?
1.
Yearn for carnal stuff!
2.
A sense of self- righteousness
3.
Malice
So, the aim of this is not to condemn us, but make us search
or heart, to know that one way or another we have gossiped for these reasons,
and then repent of it. Why?
Well, we’d just ruminate on these reasons while we wait for
what God would have us learn about the effects of gossip.
In the meantime, let’s give ourselves to the study of these
passages: Proverbs 12:14 (what good do you say?) and then Proverbs 16:28-29, Proverbs
25:28 (don’t you just love the book of proverbs?) and James 3:1-18.
From me to you: let’s not
make excuses as to why we entertain gossip or even spread it. It’s okay to feel
bad, let’s try not to cover our guilt with excuses. We just need to tell Jesus
how we really feel. He’s forgiven us already. He just needs us to accept His
forgiveness and keep away from dividing His body. #DelonixCares
