Proverbs 24: 27 says
Prepare thy work without, and make it fit for thyself in the field: and afterward, build thine house. When I read this scripture, it was as though I was hit with something harder than a blow. Why? I've always wanted to be like people I admired, but it's either I didn't do what they did to succeed or I lost my identity in the process of trying to be as successful as they are. I've learnt my lessons from both sides though. (Smh)
Truth is, as Christians,
we find ourselves desiring to be like some very famous and popular people, which is a good thing (especially if they are christian models), but when we begin to lose ourselves to mere desires and give in to wishful thinking, there's a problem, cos we end up putting the cart before the horse. ( We've all been here at some point in our lives, so let's talk about it, shall we?)
Our anchor scripture points to the place of works, not just that, but working in tandem with the grace we have or in tandem with our purpose . It says "making it fit for thyself".
Therefore, in as much as we want to be like some good models, let's take into consideration some things:
1. Have your desires, but don't let them over cloud your sense of direction or reasoning. Let your SINCERE desires drive you, not make you build castles in the air. Even James set straight the principles of faith and works ( See James 2:18).
2. Work, but let's make sure it's in line with what fits us. Let me paraphrase that. It's okay to work, but let's make sure that it's in line with our purpose. So, when we eventually get to 'ploughing' the fields, it's our responsibility to know what our portion of the field, so we don't go doing someone else's portion (this applies to whether you ant to do your own thing or you're to support another person). Even the scripture says that God has given to each man his own portion of grace ( paraphrased). Imagine what would have happened if Paul went to the Jews and Peter went to the gentiles when they were supposed to take opposite routes... (Yep! My thoughts exactly!)
3. Let's not lose ourselves in admiration of other people, no matter how godly they are.In as much as they are role models, their purposes are not necessarily ours. We may be required to learn many things through them, but that doesn't make their purpose ours. We may even find out that we fulfill our purpose while helping theirs to grow, but that still doesn't make us have the same purpose with them. You still have your identity ( niche, grace, purpose) even in helping other people fulfill their purpose...
We'll take it up from here next time. In the meantime, you could meditate on 1 Corinthians 2:9- 10
From me to you: Understand the grace which God has given you and work in its fullness so that you'll fulfil His will for you. His will fits you Best! #DelonixCares
